About Lamu
A truly unique place, Lamu is a town unaffected by the passage of time...; Lamu is a romantic town that has survived time without undergoing changes, a place where things are today almost as they were at the turn of the Century. An exotic getaway for visitors, where donkeys are used for transport. The streets are narrow and winding. There are probably more dhows to be seen here than anywhere else along the East African Coast. The beach is magnificent and uncluttered. It is one of the most relaxing places you will ever have the pleasure to visit. The perfect place for honeymooners and couples.

3 Days Lamu Safari
Take a schedule light aircraft from Moi Airport (Mombasa) or Wilson Airport (Nairobi) to Manda Island (Lamu). Enjoy a boat transfer to your overnight hotel on half board accommodation. Ativities here include visits to ancient ruins, museums, the boat/dhow making village of Mtomondoni, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, scuba diving or simply lazying on the white sandy beaches and mosques ... read more

Lamu Hotels

Kijani House Hotel: Kijani House offers a unique accommodation with its 2000 sq. meters of tropical garden, which leads directly to the sea and two fresh water swimming pools. Each room has a bathroom and has its own balcony or veranda facing the garden and the sea. The rooms are spread throughout the garden into three small seperate traditional Swahili buildings which formerly were private homes, made of coral walls, with boriti ceiling and makuti roofs
New Lamu Palace Hotel is located in the center of Lamu right at the sea. It has three floors. The ground floor contains a restaurant, a Pizzeria and a Bar. On the first and second floor the rooms are located and on the third floor a Parlor and a beautiful terrace equipped with sun beds crowns the hotel.

New Lamu Palace has 22 rooms altogether. All the rooms are well ventilated with air conditioning and fans (if the main power goes off and the generator is on, only the fans will work). Four of them are superior rooms with sea view and one is a suite.
Petley's Inn is the oldest hotel in East Africa dating back some 170 years ago. Because of the rich history the hotel management has tried to preserve the original ancient feeling of the place. This old, well known Inn is on the waterfront near the museum. It is steeped in the Lamu tradition.

The hotel has 11 bedrooms and a three-room family suite. Some rooms have air-conditioning and others have ceiling fans. The hotel has a small swimming pool taking up most of the second floor, a rooftop restaurant and a pub on the ground floor. The hotel is located at the seafront near the museum close to the main jetty. It has eleven rooms equipped with air-condition. It offers an open air penthouse, a heart-shaped swimming pool and a popular roof-top bar.

Kipungani Explorer overlooks a deserted 14 km beach on the south-western tip of Lamu Island, Kipungani Explorer is a dream destination for those seeking a true desert island holiday. Kipungani Explorer has 14 spacious and secluded chalets on the soft white sands of Kipungani Bay, which is Swahili for ‘the place of fresh air’.
