| Masai Mara National Reserve |
The Masai Mara National Reserve is
probably the most famous and most visited Reserve in
Kenya. It offers breathtaking views (as seen in the film
"Out of Africa", much of which was filmed here), an
extraordinary density of animals including "The Big
Five" (lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros)
and may varieties of plains game.
An impressive feature is the annual migration of
wildebeests, zebras and gazelles from the plains of the
Serengeti that cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to
reach the Mara's grasslands from late June, tracked by
predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena, and
circled by vultures as their journey unfolds. The Masai

Located in the northern edge of the
Masai Mara National Reserve, along the winding banks of
the Mara River a river whose waters teems with hippo and
crocodile, the Mara Governors Safari Camp safari camp is
entirely under canvas. Almost a century ago it was
reserved, exclusively, for Kenya’s colonial Governors
and their royal guests.
Some of The Mara Governor's Camp's 36 tents are set upon
the riverbank, with uninterrupted views over the Mara
River, others have views across the sweeping plains of
the Masai Mara. All tents have en-suit bathrooms with
hot and cold running water and flushing toilets, and
other luxury amenities. Décor is classic safari-style,
tents spacious and tasteful.
The Mara Governor's Camp has an open bar and restaurant
tent, where buffet breakfast and lunch are served. Bush
breakfast, lunch and dinner can be organised on request.
Apart from game viewing drives other activities you can
engage in while at the Mara Governors camp include;
- Balloon safaris
- walking safaris in a private concession area
adjacent to the reserve.
- Visits to a nearby Maasai village
