| Amboseli National Park |
Amboseli is a place of stark contrast. Meaning a
"place of water" in Masai, Amboseli despite its
sometimes dry and dusty appearance, has an endless water
supply filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic
rock from Kilimanjaro's snow melt. These underground
streams converge into two clear water springs in the
heart of the park.

The endemic dust is volcanic ash which spewed from
Kilimanjaro a millennia ago. During the dry seasons, a
curious feature is the shimmering dry lake (lake
Amboseli) bed where false mirages of populated horizons,
punctuated by real herds of zebras and wildebeests hover

Ol Kanjau Camp, a traditional
safari mobile-tented camp, has six spacious and
luxurious tents, with large comfortable beds, safari
style bathroom, with bucket showers, hot water available
at any time of the day and evening
Ol Kanjau Camp is sited at the end of
Africa's largest hill slope, Mount Kilimanjaro, whose icy rim is only 30
kilometers south in Tanzania. Ol Kanjau is adjacent to Amboseli National
park and is surrounded by a larger area of true African bush land
wilderness owned by Kisongo Maasai pastoralists. Ol Kanjau is a
traditional safari style tented camp kept as simple as possible so that
you can still "listen to the quiet nature, smell clean air and try to
count a million stars."
Your hosts, Mike & Judy Rainy, will
welcome you to the Camp; they have worked as ecologists in Kenya since
1968, and they are still active in large-scale ecosystem research to see
how Amboseli wildlife interacts with Maasai people and their
livestock.
Visitors to Ol Kanjau Camp
enjoy full board accommodation, including soft drinks, beer and house
wine.
Game drives are undertaken within Kisongo Ecosystem and
Amboseli National Park, Nature Walks and Walking
Safaris within Kisongo Ecosystem, Bird watching, Cultural visits to the nearby Maasai
settlements, Following the movement of 52
several known matriarch elephant families at close range.
